In Praise of Mary Tsao
Mommybloggers.com is honored to introduce you to an incredible writer. This week's featured blogger is full of enthusiasm for writing! Her name is Mary Tsao, and her blog, Mom Writes, is dedicated to celebrating the art of writing. In addition to writing incredibly well herself, Mary recognizes and promotes the work of other talented writers.
Mary has a passion for great writing, and a critic's eye for describing what makes the writers she loves so significant in the world of writing and blogging today. She also shares stories about her family, and has recently completed her own novel through the writer's marathon of NaNoWriMo. Mary was able to complete her goal of 50,000 words while raising two beautiful children. With her obvious talent and energy, we at Mommybloggers can't wait to see what develops. We asked some of Mary's readers to share what keeps them coming back for more, and we were delighted with the reponse.
Suzanne was inspired by Mary's prolific writing:
I just happened on Mary's blog a couple of months ago and was interested in her quest to write a novel in 30 days. I've been *working* on one for a least a year and haven't gotten very far. It was exciting to watch her progress and to see her succeed. It was inspirational. Now if only I could choose a month and get started.
Melanie Lynne Hauser admires her taste in literature:
What I like about Mary is that she's talking about good books, reading, in addition to letting us sneak a peek at her life with as a mom. I love to see what she's currently reading, because I'm always looking for the next good book! She's been a tremendous supporter of my own writing, as well as of that of other authors I know and admire.Krisco really enjoys Mary's take on books and parenting:
I love reading Mary Tsao's site, and look forward to it every day. There are a couple things I especiallly like about Mary. First, she writes some great author lecture writeups and book reviews. She is passionate about writing and does a good job conveying whatever is of interest from these events, which I especially appreciate since theyn don't make it to my podunk state. Mary also tells some great and endearing stories about life as a stay at home mom, both the ups and them downs. But finally, and especially, and not to be too obvious about it with a site called Mom Writes, but that mom can write. She tells stories from various eras of her life, and writes essays, that are moving, endearing, and have imagery which stay with me for a very long time. I love reading Mom Writes, and I am happy for Mary that she's getting some well-earned recognition..
Julie was happy to share why she keeps clicking:
One of the reasons I love to read Mary's blog is that she writes about more than just her kids (who are adorable, no doubt). Not only are her posts entertaining, but she makes me think, which is something we all should do more often.
Fridayplaydate offered her praise as well:
Mary has my undying admiration for finishing NaNoWriMo, with two small kids at home. And she has the most beautiful and serene place to write (see the photo she posted--my god it's lovely!). I am envious of her balance of Mom and Writer--it's something I aspire to.
sweatpantsmom was happy to share some thoughts on Mary:
I've only been reading Mary's blog for a short time, but enough to see that she is a thoughtful, sensitive and insightful writer. Not to say that she is a softie, becasue the girl has a bite to her. Which means that she can write about loving her man and adoring her kids but do it in a way that doesn't make you want to slap her. This is a good thing, and why I Ilike Mary!
Prego explained what draws him to Mom Writes, again and again:
Stopping by Mary's "Mom Writes" blog is like popping by unannounced at an old college friend's house, sitting on the front stoop and sipping chianti on a warm afternoon. * All kidding aside, I never met the woman, so it's more like 'Peeping Tom' style... "What's for dinner?" "What makes her tick," and "Are those kids kookier than mine" - (They're not. Drat!)
Mary has developed a loyal following, and we received so much praise that we weren't able to feature it all. Check back later today as we put Mary in the Mommybloggers hot seat. You don't want to miss this one!
