Question 2 - Q&A - Auld Lang Syne

What is your New Year's Resolution for 2006?

Writing
andrea in the fishbowl: - Write, write, write. It's the thing I truly love to do, and I should be doing more. And get paid for it too!
Cooper from Been There: My 2006 resolution is to complete the book I am writing with my co-blogger, Emily. The book is on parenting, so any of you reading this who want to answer some parenting questions, stop by our blog!
Susan: To have something I write published in a paying forum. Anyone have any connections?
Carmen: I am determined to finish the book I have started. I keep delaying it, due to my own lack of confidence. That's silly - I know it's good, and I need to buckle down and get it done.
La Mala: Write a hell of alot more!!!!! Maybe I'll actually make a schedule that I'll stick to!!!

Rock. Star.
Karen: Biggest NY resolution: making my latest project a resounding success. I'm launching a new online magazine in the new year -- Indigo Leaf Magazine -- featuring the works of artists and previously-unpublished writers (personal blogs don't count!). It's designed to give aspiring writers and artists a stepping-stone into the publishing world. In my experience, there are so many talented writers out there in the world, and it's a shame that most of their voices won't be heard. I would love it if someone became a successful author or artist in part because their early works were seen in Indigo Leaf!

Retaining
Deana (mazeway): To leave the year with the same family with which I entered it.

Renaming Resolutions "New Goals"
Sleepless Mama: I don't make "New Year's resolutions" anymore. Just calling them that will almost guarantee failure. I make "new goals for self and family." And my main goal is to get my four-year-old fully potty trained, because for heaven's sake, she's FOUR! She'll be starting pre-school soon!
Other goals include:
*Get the Christmas tree down before January 10th
*Get the 2 boxes of stuff in the living room unpacked or put away
*Get the remaining 20 moving boxes in the garage unpacked
*Start the baby on potty training after she turns two
*Get my new sewing machine completely figured out so that I'm not intimidated by it, and use it to make something more complicated than a pillow
*Figure out who the idiot is that keeps calling my house early in the morning and breathing heavily at me and call down vengeance upon him! MWAHAHAHA!

Rehydrating
Marla: I resolve to moisturize. Can that really be the difference between me and people who have nice cuticles?

Relocating
MommaK: I already have quite a few New Year's Resolutions racked up for 2006. My most paramount is to find our dream home and get my family moved in it as seamlessly as possible. Our current house goes on the market in just a few week so wish me luck!
JUSTICE: - I guess for me, that would be "what ARE your new year's resolution for 2006"....lose weight and firm-up a bit, study interior decoration, fix myself more (i mean, not just run around with an untidy bun of hair or un-ironed tee), look for a part-time job after we relocate.
Realistic
Desperate to be a Housewife: It's a toss-up. I either want to take over the world or get more people to comment on my blog...I'm a Comment Whore and 1-2 people's input per day just isn't cutting it for me....talk to me people...I know you're out there!

Romantic
Mir: Achieve the necessary goals to pursue the opulent lifestyle to which I'd like to become accustomed. Or marry a well-hung Canadian. It's sort of a toss-up at this point.

Reforming
Suz: I would have to say first to enjoy my friends & family to the fullest. To try and keep my health ontrack the best I can and in order to do that I need to do my best to lose a lot of weight
clickmom: My New Years resolution is also easy (well, easy for me to resolve) I am going to clean up my kids diet. No more soda and much less sweets for my kids. There is too much chub and tooth decay going on here.
ishouldbeworking: My resolutions for 2006 are to keep life as "sane" as possible for myself and for my daughter, and to stick with the program I started at work to help me deal with stress, lose weight, and increase my exercise.
Sarah: I tend to not make resolutions... But I now stay at home (and work at home part time), and it's just me and the two girls, so I need to resolve to have more patience, because I pretty much don't have any.
Elisa Camahort: Oh, jeez, the same one as it is every year: to finally really take care of myself and get in better shape. So boring, but there it is.
Sleeping Mommy: In 2006 I resolve to be a better mother. Seems simple, or maybe complicated depending on your outlook. But in order to be a better mother I'm going to have to be a better ME. I'm going to have to take better care of myself and my health and find whatever it is that is missing inside me to be kinder to myself and those around me. If you have any suggestions on how I can accomplish this please feel free to send them my way. I'm going to need all the help I can get.
Jamie: 2006: Jamie whomps on the bad habits. I'm giving up sugar. (Really. I am. I know I've said that before but this time I mean it.) I'm also giving up staying up too late sitting at the computer surfing aimlessly and then snapping at my kids the next day because I'm tired and cranky. And I'm going to re-read the Bible.
(I love New Year's resolutions. I will actually make about two dozen of them, but I'll stop here after three.)
Kris: My resolutions for 2006 are to become a better mom, get closer to God, and to spend way more time reading and writing.
Laura: To find balance - kidlet, husband, family, friends, hobbies, work (office), home business, household.
Busy Mom: I'm not a big New Year's Resolution person, but I do admit to thinking about this very thing just this morning. I will try to pick one small thing, something very do-able (don't know what yet), to improve my health. My mother's declining health has made me realize that I want to try to keep my kids from having to go through this and I need to get serious since I'm not getting any younger! Any suggestions out there for something realistic I can do?
Magnolia Mom: My 2006 New Year's Resolution, although, I have lots of them, my most significant is the good old stand by: to lose weight! I need to eat healthier and exercise in order to help me achieve this goal.

Relaxing
Surcie: My resolution is to lighten up and not be so hard on myself. So if I don't succeed with this resolution, I'm not going to beat myself up over it.
Ann Douglas: To work less and relax more. Really. I am not kidding. But just to hedge my bets, please destroy all records of this answer after, say January 31st.
Mamacita: New Year's Resolution 2006: Hmm, that's a hard one, because I am the most fault-filled person in the world! I think most of all that I would resolve to keep on trusting and loving people, even when they don't deserve it. That's when they need it most, you know. Every once in a while I get burned, and swear that I'll become more hardboiled and wise, but then I turn around and do it again. I am so easy. And honestly? I really believe that it's better to trust and love and get burned once in a while, than to become cynical ALL the time. (A little cynicism is fun, though.) Perhaps I should add to my resolve and say also that I could use some of Hemingway's advice in my life: ("The most essential gift for a good writer is a built-in, shock-proof shit detector. This is the writer's radar and all good writer's have it.") And it isn't just writers who need that, either! I could REALLY use that little skill.
Lisa Hazen: To stop reading scary crap on the Internet. Seriously, there is more information out there than the average new mother can safely process. Gawker.com and eonline.com--now that shit is safe.
noell: My 2006 New Year's Resolution is to not do anything new (see my answer to question number one). I'm not taking on any new projects, no new challenges to explore, no more climbing unchartered heights. I've had enough of trying new things, and so I'm sticking with my blogging, my exercising, my cooking, and my scrapbooking. But nothing new. Ok, well I might try making a video podcast. And maybe I'll learn web-design. But that's it!
allison: Not to be tied to resolutions. They freak me out, wear me down, flit around my shoulders and head stressing me out. Good in theory. Rough in the follow through.
Baseballmom: My New Years' resolution(s) are to be a much more patient mom, and to slow down and just have fun with my boys. I get so busy and stressed, that I forget what it's all about! I also need to take more "me" time, so that I can be more content...which will carry over into my parenting. I need to learn to say "no" to outside commitments more, and focus on my family and myself. Pretty deep huh?

Refraining
Supa: My resolution is to quit smoking. I'm kicking myself for ever starting up again. [Can I blame it on colic? No? Okay.]
Buffi: I told my husband that my New Year's resolution was to not stab him in the eyeball with an icepick. I am aiming to keep my resolutions entirely attainable. He suggested that I broaden that goal to include all sharp implements and I am taking that under advisement. For the time being, however, I'm limiting it to icepicks.
Cissa Fireheart: New Year's Resolution is to quit smoking. Besides all the health issues that come with it, it's very expensive (especially here in New England). The money I save of cigarrettes alone in one year, will probably allow me to buy a new computer!

Retraining
Erin-erin-bo-berin: It's been the same for years. This year, it's new. In August, I'm going to school to earn my license as a Registered Massage Therpaist. My resolution is to get my career going, doing what I love and getting paid for it!

Remembering
Lisa Stone: To remember the lessons of Hurricane Katrina, the Boxing Day Tsunami and the Pakistan earthquake, and to keep working to raise the profile of women working at the grassroots level in 2006.

Refusing
Genuine: I resolve not to have any more children...EVER!
EverydaySuperGoddess: Now WHY would I set myself up for failure like that? There are a lot of things I hope to accomplish in 2006, but I’m also keeping my options open. You just never know what might come up.
Emily G.: I refuse to make resolutions. They're too hard to keep and I'd just make myself feel guilty because I couldn't even manage to keep a New Year's resolution. I do, however, try to be nicer and to lose my temper a bit less. But that's an overall effort, not just for 2006.
holli: Considering I rebel against myself and I tend to be my own worst enemy.. I don't make resolutions. Anything I pick as a New Year's resolution is doomed for failure - so I usually pick the opposite of what I want to do.. like "for New Year's I'm going to eat more." Now go ahead and psychoanalyze me!!
Melanie Lynne Hauser: I don't do resolutions, sorry! I just want to continue looking forward, not backward - eager for all the things to come my way as a woman, mom and author.
Mindy: I never make resolutions. In fact, one of my standard IM status messages is
< circle.slash >futile goals< /circle.slash >.
Stephanie: I don't believe in New Year's resolutions.
DaniGirl: New Year's Resolution? I don't make resolutions.
Margalit: I don't make New Year's resolutions because I'm one of those people that can't hold onto them for more than a day or two, but if I were to make a resolution, it would be to take more care of my health so I'll be around for my kids.

Really?
Sour Duck: Blog less. Work more (speaking of no dignity).
Amber…Bamberboo: Quite simply to have a better year than last year! And yes, I have a plan...

Right on!
Elaine: Write well, create often and dance like an idiot every time my daughter asks.
Landismom: I don't like to make resolutions at New Year's--I tend to make them near my birthday, which feels more right somehow. However, since you asked--to blog fearlessly about the political interstices between motherhood, feminism, economic and social justice!
Dawn: My New Years resolution? Normally I don't make them. I try not to make promises that I can't keep. However, this year , I endeavor to be less fearful of the unknown. I have found that as I have gotten older, I worry more about health insurance and money, and all the things that keep you tied to a job. I want to let go and be able to do my Ph.D. program, but I have some residual fear of failure. More importantly, how that potential failure will impact my family. However, if I don't try, I can not only Not fail, but not succeed. This year will clearly be about tackling this demon, in many facets of my life.

Running
Grace Davis: Get my menopausal fat ass back into shape and run my third marathon.
Halley Suitt: Keep working out hard and get even stronger.
Pamalamadingdong: resolutions? I have a few...RUN MORE...spend more time with my children..

Rambling
Jennifer: I have been known to make New Year's resolutions like "I resolve to be drunk on New Years Eve" and "I resolve to wear yoga pants less often"... But this year, I resolve not to fight my wanderlust. I'm travelin' again, my little monkeys! TRAVELIN'!

Reorganizing
Jen from Not Calm: To get rid of enough stuff in our house that I can keep up with what we have without losing my mind. Also, I want to drink more tea.
Hula Doula: My resolution includes getting more organized! I am going to try to do one room a month if not two. Also I would like to ride my new bike about 3 times a week with the children. I think that would benefit all of us. Last but not least I want to complete at least one full semester of school this year towards being a doula!
Krisco: The same as it was for 2005, ironically. To finally,
finally, start putting some of those family photos in some kind of an album. Last year I wanted to put them
in a fancy Creative Memories-type keepsake book. Now I just want to get them out of the little white
film-processing envelopes. (Yes, that means they are analog. We also have digital that need to get out of
the computer but that's a whole other problem. Maybe for 2008. I'm giving myself two years for the analog
ones (is that even the right term for actual photos?), considering I couldn't even start this year at all...)

To keep the 30 pounds off that I lost this last year, along with another 5 - 10, and get my stomach flatter so I can pierce my belly button. :P

To keep working out until I lose that last 15lbs of baby weight. And to try my best to get to bed earlier. I love the quiet time of the evening when the kids are asleep but I stay up entirely too late enjoying it.
