In Praise of Yvonne Marie

Today at Mommybloggers, we are thrilled to turn our high beams on the one and only Yvonne Marie of Joy Unexpected. Yvonne has been titillating the World Wide Web since 2002. So cool that she answers to a single letter, Y’s blog is a look into the life of this awesome woman, yet readers can find a little bit of themselves in every post she writes.

Y is side splittingly funny, yet effortlessly manages to pack an emotional punch. Whether she’s ranting about her Jerry Springer-worthy neighbors, or sharing stories about life with her husband, her pre-teen boys and her baby girl, her entries always stick with you. Her self-deprecating humor allows her to share some of her embarrassing moments with her tongue firmly planted in her cheek. Y occasionally details her struggles with depression and weight loss, intermixed with the hilarity of life with her husband and children and memories from her past, woven together with her wonderful photography and hilarious drawings.

We love reading Joy Unexpected, because Y is a true original. She’s real people, warm, funny, beautiful, and honest. Y calls ‘em like she sees ‘em, and we love her straight-shooting style and humorous outlook on life. From her "Germican" wedding to her love for "The Nies," Y breaks it all down for readers to enjoy. We asked some of Y’s friends and readers to tell us more about the amazing Y, and we were moved by the outpouring of love we received in our inbox.

Chris was delighted to tell us why she keeps coming back for more -

i've been reading yvonne for roughly a half year, and i haven't missed an entry since i found her blog. her honesty, her humor, and her willingness to share make her a good read. she rides an emotional rollercoaster that's familiar to many of us. i totally adore her kids- i think the photos she takes are wonderful! the boys ARE handsome and the tiny queen is just too cute to be true. and Y, my fat pants could swallow yours ANY day of the week!

Sarcastic Journalist stepped away from her babymoon to send a little love -

I began reading Y when we were both pregnant with our daughters. Eventually, the relationship went from blog reading to emails to phone calls. Y is a good friend, someone that I know I can call or email when I'm feeling down or just want to talk. She's a great writer, a wonderful mom and has a great sense of humor. I'm very glad that we've become friends. She's a wonderful person.

Melly offered both glowing praise and veiled threats -

I honestly do not know how I would have made it through the past few years if it wasn't for Yvonne. She has definitely been one of the major women in my life who have helped shaped what kind of mom I want to be. Fun, but firm. The way she is with her children, is the way I aim to be with mine. I love her for her humor, her wit, and her heart. We are a great pair, because she reminds me to see the good in people, and I remind her that if someone were to ever harm her in any way, they would have to deal with me.

Ben has been a fan forever, and was happy to share the love -

She was one of the first bloggers I "met" way back when I started, and I have always been fascinated by her honesty and her sense of humor, and marvelled at how she has grown and changed over the past couple of years.

She also appreciates a good joke, and I love teasing and joking with her. I can't wait to meet her someday.

Mindy Roberts broke all previous records for length of praise quotes, so great is her love for "The Y" -

I honestly don't even know where to begin with Yvonne. From the moment we started reading each other we were all, do I stalk, do I not stalk, will it seem creepy, how much do I care if it does, what's she going to do about it, well I can take her anyway, nah, she'd probably enjoy that… you now, like that.

Our friendship began with an IM out of nowhere, and within a dozen lines we were calling each other the foulest names, and if that doesn't spell true love, what does?

Also? She is the only person I know who had more square yardage of unnecessary decoration happening on her wedding dress. The veil, the neckline… it almost makes you want to forgive me for the three-foot bow I had on my ass. At least I didn't have the guts to put on the Wedding Cake Tableau: A River Runs Through It. (And Under A Bridge.)

Yvonne will think I'm full of shit, but she is an inspiration to those of us who struggle(d) and fail(ed) to make a marriage hum. She has her rants and raves, but in the end, we al know what's gonna happen to that enchilada. I'm so amazed at how much they love each other after all these years. She tells her stories with a raw honestly that grabs my in the gut and leaves me staring at the screen. Half the time I don't even want to comment because I think she can feel the thoughts I'm beaming at her. We're just kooky enough to think things like that. Of course, if her stories don't leave you staring at the screen, her gorgeous smile and shiny, shiny hair will. Bitch.

We only met once, but it went something like this:

Yvonne was just here with us at our hotel in Pasadena, drinking Guinness to our Heineken and Hess Select and scarfing Baked Ruffles out by the pool. EEEEE! She is SO COOL! We were swearing and laughing in the lobby bathroom within minutes of meeting.

Yvonne arrived a couple of hours before we had to go out, so we had just enough time to send Mr. X for refreshments since the bar didn't open till five. *throws cocktail napkin* Personal foul on the hotel for having lame service!

As soon as we met in the lobby we both had to pee like puppies meeting for the first time. We walked down the hall and as Yvonne opened the door to the restroom, she gasped and jumped. I was standing there with that wide-eyed, WHAT JUST HAPPENED look on my face, thinking she'd just walked in on someone.

I whispered, "Was someone in there?"

"No, I fell off my shoes."

"Oh, okay."

Yvonne's reaction to the meeting?
"I love Mr.X. p.s. Wanna make out?"

Yvonne is so admired, and we received so much praise that we couldn’t possibly include it all. We are delighted to have had the chance to get all up in her grill with our Mommybloggers-style interview. Come on back later today and see what Y has to say for herself!

Aw, man. I just cried a little.

Woohoo, spotlight on Yvonne! Great pick... I know I'll be first in line if/when she decides to bottle that humor along with the glue that's keeping her marriage healthy. :)

Yay for Yvonne!!!

I concur, "Yay for Yvonne!!!"

Yvonne is one of my favorite internet-type peoples. I adore her.

Four people like me! YES![/napoleon dynamite voice]

She is THE BEST blogger around bar none. No one is more honest, funny, and sincere. I'm glad I know her (well in the blog sense if that counts).
