Question 1 - April Fools Q&A Smackdown
If you could choose a name for yourself, other than your own, what would it be?
I should have been famous:
Busy Mom - Oprah.
Amber - Emily Brontë - It has vowels and an umlaut - How cool would it be to have an umlaut in your name?!!
Donna Schwartz Mills - Julia Roberts
Lisa - Foxfire Jolie-Pitt. Seriously.
Jenijen - Other than Your Majesty? I can't think of one.
Vicky Bach - Mrs. Victoria Rockefeller, because I would enjoy the enourmous wardrobe that goes along with that title.
Fictional Characters:
Amanda - This one is hard since I've always loved the name my parents gave me (even though I was named after a Barry Manilow song and a BAD one at that - Mandy). So I'd probably go with the name I gave to my first cat - Penelope. I named her after Penelope Pitstop, the pink car from Hanna Barbara's cartoon Wacky Races. (http://www.toonopedia.com/wacky-r.htm) She was hot AND her car had eyelashes. You can't beat that.
Erin-erin-bo-berin - Little Red Riding Hood. She visits her grandmother regularly, eats great food, tangles with a wolf and has rugged lumberjacks come to her rescue!
Make it simple:
Lin - Jane. I'm a simple girl and have always wanted a name that didn't reflect a particular time in the 20th c. It's also what I named my beloved daughter.
Danielle - I would choose the name Sissy. It would pair well with my southern drawl.
Liz - My parents are from Eastern Europe, where most everyone has a last name that includes way too many consonants, and my maiden name was constantly mispronounced and kids teased the hell out of me by calling out...there goes Liz Catshit. Hey, don't worry, I got over it -- bastards!! -- and was very, very happy to marry into a New England family and becoming Elizabeth Thompson -- sounds nice and waspy and I wouldn't change it for the world ;o)
But she hasn't really given it much thought.
Deana - Something I wouldn't have to pronounce or spell. Like Kate. I could just say "Kate with a K" And it's nice and strong. No one would mess with Kate. And my parents would still call me Katie, which I would pretend to hate, but secretly like.
Make it fancy:
Mary Tsao - Something unique or mysterious or exotic. Or that just sounds like it. Anything other than Mary Pat, which was my nickname until I moved out of the state of Illinois. Mary Pat is a good name for a nun.
Mamacita - I have always secretly hankered after the name "Zoe."
Susie Q?
Rbelle - My name is fairly complex and coupled with my husbands last name nobody can ever get either part of my name right. While I love having a different first name, I always thought it would be nice to be "Amy" or "Susan" and not have to go through a five minute lesson every time I meet a new person.
Jerri Ann Reason - If I could choose a name for myself, it probably would have been Susan or Susie, I have no idea why though.
Awwwww...
Holli - I'm sure a gazillion other people are going to give this same answer, but I really sat down and thought of all the names I wanted instead of my own when I was younger. Hip names, cool names.. names that had traditional spellings so I could get lots of "stuff" with my moniker emblazoned on it, as it was nearly impossible to find things imprinted with "Holli." However, at Christmas time you could get "Holly" stuff out the veritable wazoo.
And oh my LORD - if you only knew what it's like to go through life with the initials "HAG!!!!" Let me tell you - it sucked!! And it's the exact reason why Faith's middle name did NOT end up being "Alexandria," if you know what I mean. Think about it.
So I always wanted something different than what I had - but eventually my request was granted.. in the form of "mommy."
What's in a name? Everything!!
Actually, I'm good, thanks.
BaseballMom - My mom asked me before middle school if I would like to change my name, because it was so unusual at the time (Shelby) but I said no. I later was glad that I didn't change it, and I guess I feel the same way now!
No, I'M Good.
Marla Good - I kind of did. It’s Good. No, I mean it is Good. And it’s good. I chose it when I married a great guy. It’s nice when the label accurately describes the contents. For each of us. Now I just have to work on changing my middle name to “Very”.
For the meaning, of course:
Mary, mom to many - Honestly? "Inspiring" I know it's not a name typically seen on birth certificates, but I hope to live my life so that some day people will describe me in this way.
Margalit - I love my name, but I think I might chose Aziza, which means
"strong" in Hebrew.
Muwahahahahaha!
MegaMom - Delicate Lotus Flower with Muffin Top.

Comments
Are you kidding? My name is sooo dorky--it's very 60's/70's but, hey! so am I! I was almost named "Jill" which I would have liked very much.

Oh, Amanda. Were you really? Because I not only wanted to be named Mandy, I wanted to BE Mandy. Probably because I was only 8 and didn't know what Barry Manilow looked like.

That's it, I should go by Kate instead of Katie. You wouldn't believe how many people can manage to misspell it. (Katy, Kati, Katey, and then with the C...)
