Week 3 - Question 1
What idea will you never be disuaded from believing in?
Humankind:
Gette: I am a sucker for the notion that there is a little bit of good in everyone, no matter how small, no matter how well hidden.
Mamacita: I agree with Anne Frank: "In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart." Most people, anyway.
Go with your heart, and forget the experts:
Richie Ann: I will never be disuaded from believing that people can do anything they set their mind to with their lives no matter what their circumstances. I don't believe in the victim mentality.
Margalit: That parenting choices are just that. choices. Because I get so angry and tired of people saying that bottle feeding is evil and child abuse, that circumcision is evil and child abuse, that co-sleeping is evil and child abuse, ad nauseum. What you choose for your family is fine. Do what you want. But don't go telling me that I'm doing something wrong because my choices are different than yours.
Everyday Superhero: I will never be dissuaded from believing that spanking is wrong. I'm not trying to open the hitting-your-kids-is-bad can of worms. Truly. But, there is no one in the world that will ever convince me that hitting my kids is a good thing to do.
Above and beyond:
Tricia: That we are Free.
Still Standing: Jesus Christ, the power of prayer, and the power of love.
Estella: When I was a child, my parents told me the story of Noah's Ark. I was fascinated by the tale. Animals of every species flocking to the ark in twos...The lion and the lamb, tame and peaceful...The 40 days and nights of rain...The dove, the olive branch, and then God's promise in the rainbow. Since my childhood, I've had my ups and downs with God, the Bible, and religion. But during those rare moments when the rainbow can be seen on the horizon, beautiful and majestic, I have to believe that there is someone out there, bigger than all of us, sending his promise after the rain.
Heather: That there is a Heaven. I just can't believe that this life is all there is. It can't just end when we die, there has to be something more.
She's not crazy, no matter what her husband says.
Sarah, Goon Squad Sarah: I believe that it is easier to drive south on a major interstate than it is to drive north because the number count down and you can always tell how many more miles you have to go before you get to the next state. I think it is easier and I'm not crazy. I don't care what my husband says.
Education is critical:
Maleah: That education is the key to solving so many of our nation's problems. Think about it, if people were better educated would we have elected George W. Bush twice?
It all balances out in the end:
Shanilie: "What goes up must come down" As soon as you say it's all good, something bad is sure to follow. For example, you stub your little toe, then it happens again, in the same day....and the same toe. Ow We.
DDM: That everything happens for a reason. Good, bad or totally sucky, everything happens for a reason and offers a lesson.
Magic:
Homemom3: I will always believe Christmas is a magical time of year. I mean come on you've got Santa coming and all the neat things that go with this holiday, the cheer alone that surrounds people. The twinkle that goes in your child's eye when they see that santa left them something under the tree. The magic of Christmas morning, even when there is no snow under the tree.
We believe it, too, Rita.
Rita Arens: That I can someday publish a book.
Yeah, what is up with that?
Emzeegee: That when I grow up I won't get zits anymore. I've still got the damn things at 30 years old, but somehow I'm convinced that I'll "grow out of it." I also am not convinced that popping them makes them worse - the feeling of satisfaction is wwwaayyyy too great.
Still waiting for that pony, too.
Patty Maher: That my mother and father lied when they said they didn’t have a favorite child. That parents of multiple children, myself included, deep down have favorites, whether they overtly play favorites or not.
